Cotecna Ghana/GSL Promotes Vision Safety During Safety Week 2026

As part of this year's Safety Week celebration, themed "Worker Empowerment," Dr. Nancy Asante Boadi-Afoakwa of Goodnews Eye Centre delivered an engaging Eye Health and Safety Talk titled "Protecting Your Vision at Work and Beyond" to employees of Cotecna Ghana/Gateway Services Limited (GSL) on 28 September 2026.

Held both in person at the Tema Office conference room and virtually via Microsoft Teams, the session focused on raising awareness of common eye health concerns affecting today's workforce, particularly employees who spend long hours using digital devices.

Dr. Boadi-Afoakwa highlighted the causes and symptoms of digital eye strain, also known as Computer Vision Syndrome, and shared practical measures employees can take to reduce its impact. Participants also learned about the importance of wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during field operations and how to recognize eye injuries that require immediate medical attention.

The presentation further emphasized the role of healthy lifestyle choices in maintaining good vision. Employees were encouraged to effectively manage health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, which can have significant long-term effects on eye health.

To conclude the session, participants underwent eye screening assessments and received personalized guidance on maintaining healthy vision. The initiative reinforced Cotecna Ghana/GSL's commitment to employee well-being and workplace safety by promoting greater awareness of eye health both at work and beyond.
