Organic Farming Boosts Flora, Birds & Pollinators by 95%
A meta-analysis conducted by the FiBL Research Institute (Research Institute of Organic Agriculture), in collaboration with numerous research institutions and universities, analyzed 528 scientific publications to evaluate the potential of organic farming. The results highlighted how organic farming contributes significantly to biodiversity. There are increases of 95% in spontaneous flora, 35% in field birds and 23% in pollinating insects compared to conventional methods.
Increase in spontaneous flora and fauna
The lack of use of agrochemicals and synthetic fertilizers in organic farming favors the growth of a wider variety of spontaneous plants and the increase in fauna, creating an agro-ecosystem with ideal habitat for numerous species.
Greater presence of field birds
The diversification of crops and the presence of hedges and uncultivated edges offer shelter and food sources for birds, increasing their presence in organic fields.
Increase in pollinating insects
Organic agricultural environments, rich in flowers and free of harmful chemicals, attract a greater quantity of pollinating insects, essential for the ecosystem.
Protection of soil and water resources
Organic practices improve soil structure and reduce erosion, contributing to the conservation of water resources.
Reduction of nitrogen emissions
In organic farming, synthetic nitrogen fertilizers are not permitted, which leads to an average decrease of 28% of nitrogen emissions with benefits for the environment and human health.
