Agrofarma report reveals continuous progress towards organic farming.

The report by the Agrofarma Observatory highlights the continuous progress of the Italian agrochemicals industry, with a particular focus on the increase in agricultural areas dedicated to organic farming. Research and development (R&D) is evolving thanks to numerous collaborations with public and private entities and innovative technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, that are revolutionizing the sector, particularly in the 4.0 agriculture. Despite a slight market contraction in 2024, digital farming solutions continue to be successful.

In the organic sector, cultivated areas have increased, reaching 2.5 million hectares in 2023, or 20.4% of the national Utilized Agricultural Area (UAA), well above the European average. The European Commission reaffirmed the importance of digital agriculture, biocontrol techniques and Assisted Evolution Techniques (ATE), in line with the sector's priorities.

The report underlines the importance of collaborations between companies, universities and research centers, with almost 1,900 partnerships activated in the last five years, and how industry is playing a central role in the innovation and sustainability of the agricultural sector. The use of modern technologies and a favorable regulatory environment are essential to maintain the competitiveness of the Italian agri-food industry globally
